Hello friends!! It has been a minute since we last posted. Lots of things have been going on behind the scenes which have kept us busy (IRS IRS IRS). We also have a new Facebook page which has become quite enlightening and has been a great resource for former volunteers, followers and donors to come together and discuss the animals, their war wounds and trauma. You can see from the comments how committed they were (and still are) to these animals. The time and funds they have given to the animals care is exorbitant. Yet, here they all are still trying to be the voice for so many who have none. Go visit and read some of the stories from these dedicated people, it will really help to put things in perspective.

Today we are here to share with you yet another lawsuit that has been filed against Melissa Borden, Devoted Friends Animal Society and others. Guess what it is for?? Not paying back money that was borrowed/used to buy that 2nd property in Newport that Melissa dubbed the “Medical House”. Remember that pipe dream of a Medical House that was going to be turned into a veterinary clinic to save Devoted Barn so much money?? The one that never happened!!
How can you say you are going to invest $60,000+ dollars into purchasing a foreclosed property that was in ruin and convert it into a veterinary clinic when it is zoned residential?? What due diligence did Melissa do to make sure the city would allow a variance in zoning to turn it into a business and what did she do with the State of Michigan to make sure that a residential home would be in compliance with standards of a veterinary medical facility?? I mean if you plan to do surgeries, see patients and invite other pets into a facility wouldn’t you make sure that is a possibility BEFORE a purchase?? Do you see the pattern yet of just jumping at spending money on something that is nothing more than a dream??
According to the lawsuit this victim loaned the $60,000 in good faith around August 2017 by wiring the funds and was promised she would be paid back. Even promised a lien on the property placing her in an equity position until the loan was paid back. That never happened and shocker she was never paid back a penny. A demand letter to pay back this debt was made in December 2022 and guess what they all just ignored it, no surprise there!!
What is even more odd in the complaint it is alleged that Melissa told this victim another creditor named “Tanya” had filed a “lien” on the “Medical House” so that creditor was paid from the proceeds of the “Medical House” sale in March 2022. So, do the math not only did Melissa owe the victim money, but this other person “Tanya” placed herself in the position to get paid back money she was owed for something. Or pure conjecture did “Tanya” give money to buy this property originally and was under the impression she bought the property or did she give a loan for something else and had to secure a way to be paid back??? Any way you slice this it again plays into the fiscal irresponsibility of a nonprofit that they are getting loans and not paying them back. Forcing parties to lien and file a lawsuit to get compliance to the terms agreed to.
Remember the lien that was filed on the Newport property for the individual to recoup the money for the damage to the truck that they had leased for Melissa to drive?? They sued her, got a judgement and filed a lien on the property to get paid back. Which they did get the money at the sale of the Newport property, but question how does one justify that a nonprofit pays back a personal truck expense?? That by IRS standards is not legal. What about the lien that was placed on the new property in Rose Township by a particular individual named “Tim”?? What did Melissa borrow and not pay back from him for that to happen??
The patterns are clear here. There is no fiscal responsibility or accountability with Melissa whatsoever. She spends and borrows with reckless abandon. She is not worried about paying people back or paying bills that is obvious. Her attitude seems to be I dare them to sue me and when they do guess who is paying the legal bills?? The donors are, this money that is meant for the animals is just an open checkbook to pay a lawyer to defend the indefensible.
When will people look at this woman for what she is?? How many lawsuits by former friends, donors, the cities in which she lives and people she signs binding contracts with will make the supporters take pause?? Do people not deserve to be paid the bill or back what they “loan”?? How long are you going to believe the tales that she is the victim, that she did everything right and it is the “haters” causing her all these problems??
No Melissa you lie, you spin, you try to cheat the system by not paying proper taxes and in the end you have no honor and your word stinks as bad as that giant manure pile you have accumulated on the property you live on. Oh yeah that isn’t your fault either. Forever the victim and pointing the finger at everyone else, but yourself.
Keep an eye on this case, we have a feeling there are more fireworks, lies and secrets to be exposed in the future. In the meantime our prayers are that this victim finally gets paid back what she is so justly deserved. Sorry it takes a lawsuit to get any compliance to promises made or laws broken, but this is the life of a grifter…nothing to aspire to folks. It is a shameful way to live.
