We are heartbroken to report that we have heard from others that allegedly Dan the mule passed away Thursday.
Dan was supposed to be rescued to get the care he needed for a large abscess he had on the side of his face. Several posts Melissa made to the public she said he had multiple xrays, the abscess was drained, a tooth was broken, he was on antibiotics or possibly he had a fracture that couldn't be seen. Several people have questioned the validity of his diagnosis or if one or all of these treatments were even done.
Lets be honest here, full transparency if you are an animal lover. From the pictures posted at the bottom, you can see this abscess. Does it look even remotely smaller over the span of time? Did this mule who raised thousands in donations not deserve a trailer ride to MSU to receive proper care? What was the point to allow that abscess to not be properly addressed? Any intelligent horse person knows how a raging abscess untreated can turn into sepsis and kill the animal. Was he put down? If he is no longer alive why the secrecy?
If true and Dan is deceased why is this is being kept quiet? We believe it because a kind family offered to take in Dan the mule and they were public about their desire. They would of cared for him and even taken on the medical expenses to get him proper treatment at a veterinary hospital. Instead, they were shut out, gaslighted, called liars and even contacted by another volunteer of Devoted Barn at the direction of Melissa. This family was being messaged over the weekend about Dan. If he passed Thursday why is anyone perpetuating this lie?
Post after post is asking for money. The "feral" dogs need money, Honey needed money for surgery that she didn't get for weeks as her foot rotted, Dan the mule needed money yet he too didn't get the proper hospitalization he needed. Why are these animals not getting the immediate critical care that you have donated to?
Someone asked recently on a Devoted Barn post if they are constantly begging for money why are you not on a REAL intake hold? They don't seem to be able to afford proper vetting, they need hay, they need grain, the property needs MAJOR maintenance, she said the house is leaking, she has no AC, her truck is broken and she hasn't paid the land contract payment in months YET she keeps bringing in MORE animals!! Just recently Dan the mule, 2 new sheep, kittens and high risk puppies. That all costs money, but she is broke so send her more donations!
The donors and public need to start demanding full transparency. Quit listening to the sob story and ask for facts. Lets see pics of Dans xrays, his bills, how much money did you raise and what did you spend? How about you let this family who wanted to adopt him visit him?? Or lets see a video where you state the date and you are standing next to Dan. Personally we think the concerned parties are right and sweet gentle Dan is no longer with us.
Just because someone "rescues" an animal does not mean they are doing right by the animal or right by the donors that have invested their trust and money into helping. It is time to quit enabling and start asking some tough questions.
